ABOUT OUR FUND

The New Orleans Abortion Fund (NOAF) was established in 2012 as a community-based organization rooted in social justice, with the purpose of challenging socioeconomic inequalities by providing financial help to people who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion.  With an average pledge of just $80, we are able to change lives in our community.

What's a Game-a-Thon?
You may have raced for a cure or walked for a cause. Well, now you can PLAY FOR CHOICE!

Every April, the members of the National Network of Abortion Funds hold fundraisers in their cities called Bowl-a-Thons. People sign up, spread the word to their friends and families, raise money for the fund, and then all get together to celebrate by knocking down pins (and barriers to abortion access!) BUT! Popular-NOLA-Bowling-Alley-that-Shall-Not-Be-Named refused to let us hold the event there. Undeterred, we decided to hold a tournament of pool, ping/beer-pong, and darts at Shamrock!

What Do I Do?
Register as an individual or start/join a team. Teams can be 3-6 people, and you can create an awesome team name! Personalize your page with pictures and your reason for playing, and you're ready to go! Talk to your friends and family, send tweets and posts, anything you want to raise money for abortion access. Don't worry, we offer plenty of tips, sample scripts, and ideas for getting donations!

I Can't Make It, How Can I Help?
Making a donation to NOAF's page or to your favorite player/team will help NOAF continue to fund clients who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. Since we began making pledges, NOAF has assisted over 500 people from throughout the Gulf Coast. You can also help spread the word, recruit others to play/donate, and follow #bowl16 for updates!

Event Details:
Wednesday, April 13 at 6:30pm
Shamrock (Carrollton and Tulane Ave), New Orleans
Players who have raised $30 or more on their individual page, or are on teams that have raised $500 or more will get a gamecard to participate in the tournament!

Why should I join?
  • Our clients need you! Since we began making pledges in April 2013, NOAF has assisted nearly 600 people from throughout the Gulf Coast in accessing abortion care. Because of generous support from foundations for our overhead costs, 100% of Game-a-Thon donations goes to our clients.
  • Your voice can help bring down abortion stigma! Many of us have walked for a cause or raced for the cure. Playing for choice, talking to our friends and family about the need for abortion funds, and raising awareness about the restrictions facing patients is a powerful way to bring about change.
  • It's a ton of fun! On April 13th, get ready to party with awesome abortion funders! We'll have games, food, drink tickets, prizes, and more!

WHY WE BOWL

Funds hear firsthand how hard it can be to pay for an abortion. We're bowling to raise money to help those in need today, and we're committed to building a more just world where everyone, regardless of income, can get all of the care they need without stigma or shaming.

School, stability, a belief in the future
