ABOUT OUR FUND
The Carolina Abortion Fund was founded in 2011 by a group of volunteers who wanted to assist people in North Carolina who have chosen to have an abortion but cannot afford the whole cost. We are a group of people who help pay for abortions. We believe that income should not limit individuals' ability to make reproductive decisions.
In North Carolina, abortion is not covered by Medicaid or military insurance. Those who are covered by those programs or who don't have insurance must pay for their medical bills entirely out of pocket. With the help of volunteers, we run a helpline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year in coordination with health clinics across the state to provide small grants to callers.
We're an officially recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit and are funded entirely by individuals committed to reproductive freedom for all. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, more than 95% of your gift to CAF goes directly to the callers we serve.

Y'all ready to get the ball rolling?! We are so excited for the 4th Annual Carolina Abortion Fund Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon!
SOME EXCITING CHANGES FOR 2015
We'll raise more money to support our volunteer-run helpline than ever before (obviously), with not one but TWO amazing Bowl-a-Thon events in North Carolina!
DURHAM: We'll enjoy a change of scenery at Village Lanes in downtown Durham, NC. Don't worry, this alley is great! It's a family-owned local business and has plenty of snacks and drinks for all, just like AMF Durham Lanes. We're also shifting the time of the event to Sunday, April 19 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. (NOTE TIME CHANGE AS OF 4/8/2015)! Enjoy your Sunday afternoon and then wrap up the weekend with 250 amazing reproductive justice advocates from around the Triangle. Questions about Bowl-a-Thon Triangle? ASHEVILLE: We are so excited to be hosting the first-ever BOWL-A-THON WEST! This event will be on the same day as the Triangle Bowl-a-Thon, so we'll enjoy some statewide solidarity and friendly competition in support of abortion access in NC. The event will be from 3-5 p.m. at AMF Asheville Lanes. If you'd prefer to register for the Asheville event rather than the event hosted in the Triangle, CLICK HERE to visit that separate registration page! Questions about Bowl-a-Thon West? HOW TO START BALLIN' HARD
1. Register for either event at the REGISTER button at the top of this site. There, you can start a team, join an existing team, or sign up as an individual.
2. Set a personally challenging fundraising goal for yourself and your team (if applicable). We truly believe that every participant can raise at least $100 by reaching out to their personal networks and engaging in creative fundraising efforts - and many raise much, much more! You'll receive weekly emails to encourage and support you as you work to reach your goals, and volunteers will be available for individual fundraising support throughout the process.
3. Please immediately contribute $7 to yourself through your individual page as a registration fee to cover the cost of the lane reservation and bowling shoes for the day. We have chosen not to require this registration fee to ensure our event is accessible to all who want to participate, but if you are able to cover the $7, please help us minimize our costs. We want all of the funds raised to go directly to support our helpline!
4. Start fundraising! We'll track fundraising totals altogether as a statewide team as well as separately for each city - and awesome prizes will be up for grabs for top fundraising teams and individuals at each event, as well as silly categories like best costumes, best team name, best/worst bowlers and more!
Thank you so much for your support of abortion access in NC. More than 20 people call our helpline each day seeking financial support for abortion services, and the majority of the funds we can provide them comes from our annual Bowl-a-Thon event. You are making a difference!

WHY WE BOWL
Funds hear firsthand how hard it can be to pay for an abortion. We're bowling to raise money to help those in need today, and we're committed to building a more just world where everyone, regardless of income, can get all of the care they need without stigma or shaming.
School, stability, a belief in the future
Andra leaves campus to drive several hours each Friday afternoon to visit her two-year-old son, who lives with eight other family members at Andra’s grandmother’s house.
