"Do restrictions on abortions mean that suddenly no one gets abortions anymore?
Absolutely not. Abortions *definitely* still happen regardless of what the laws say, and they always will. Restrictions and bans really just mean that abortions become way less safe because they take place under less-than-ideal circumstances and often not in a licensed, medical setting. It's a situation that can get real dangerous real fast."
I'm bowling because I believe that abortion access is a constitutional healthcare option that should only be decided between a woman, her family and her doctor. Everyone should have access to the abortions they need, regardless of how much money they have.
In 2013, The Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity received 3,017 calls on their hotline from women asking for help.
-81% were women of color.
-69% were already mothers with 2 children on average.
-9% reported an abusive partner.
-7% reported rape or sexual violence.
-45% of all clients served in 2013 were from Houston.
Because of The Lilith Fund, 1,017 out of the 3,017 callers were able to get direct financial assistance. Lilith's success in combination with the new harsh reality for Texas women seeking abortion as a healthcare option is why I'm fundraising with the Lilith Fund for -- to make reproductive rights a reality for women, and families, who can't afford it.
Keep it legal, keep it safe, keep it rare.
