WHY I'M BOWLING

I'm a clinic escort. One or two Saturdays a month, I drag myself out of bed before the sun to get to a clinic in Queens, where I walk patients past crowds of protesters to the front door. Some of the patients are getting abortions. Some of them aren't. I don't care why my patients are there: I care about them having access to the reproductive health care they need.

NYAAF funds some of my patients' abortions. I'll never know whether I'm walking a NYAAF client to the doors, but I know that by supporting NYAAF, I'm doing more to increase patients' access to abortion care when they need it.

That's why I'm bowling with my fellow clinic escorts - or deathscorts, as our protesters like to call us on a weekly basis. We do what we can to ensure physical access to abortion care by walking patients into the clinic. Together, we're also fighting to get our patients and others across the state of New York financial access to abortion too.

I'm bowling because I believe that everyone should have access to the abortions they need, regardless of how much money they have.

Because of unfair and unnecessary laws, safe and legal abortions can be out of reach of those who don't have the money to pay for them. I don't think that's right, so I'm doing something about it. I'm bowling to break down barriers to abortion access.

I'm lacing up my shoes and polishing my bowling ball to raise money for my local abortion fund, the New York Abortion Access Fund (NYAAF).
