WHY I'M BOWLING
The Rio Grande Valley is down to one abortion clinic, and the state keeps trying to shut it down. Patients trying to get in/out of the McAllen clinic run into protesters who say terrible things to people.
Meanwhile, Sen. Lucio -- a Democrat who's supposed to be representing the interests of the RGV -- keeps voting with Republicans on awful legislation. He's the kind of guy who uses the Bible to make decisions about reproductive health care.
Lucio and the Texas GOP keep piling on anti-healthcare legislation, and we're fucking sick of it. Our rights are being trampled on.
The RGV is one of the poorest areas in the nation and is surrounded by two borders: the Mexican border, and the Border Patrol checkpoint about 100 miles north of the Mexican border. If Whole Woman's Health in McAllen closes, undocumented immigrants will be unable to travel outside the RGV for an abortion.
As it stands, there are already people living in the RGV who are unable to access abortion care because of the cost. As more clinics are forced to close, the demand for financial assistance and practical support increases. It's a vicious cycle created by years of anti-choice laws.
BUT. There IS a way to help!
