WHY I'M BOWLING

There are so many reasons that people seek out abortion services.

For us it was miscarriage. Two very much wanted pregnancies ended for reasons unknown, leading to Michelle needing a dilation & curettage procedure the first time and vacuum aspiration for the second. We were fortunate- insurance covered the enormous doctors’ bills as part of maternity care and we could focus on the emotions of the moment.

Not everyone is so lucky. For those without insurance or facing an unexpected pregnancy, there is no one to cover the costs. For them, the hundreds of dollars they need to pay for a procedure may mean that bills will not get paid, or that the grocery cart will be less full next week. It is unconscionable that a person’s decision about whether or not to have an abortion could be tied to the amount of their rent. But too often it is.

This is where the Baltimore Abortion Fund comes in. Like the other members of the National Network of Abortion Funds, BAF provides peace of mind. When someone receives a pledge of support from BAF to cover the difference between the cost of a procedure and their available funds, they can breathe a little easier. Their decision can then be made based on their personal reality instead of the contents of their wallet.

And this is where you come in. I come to you once a year for this cause that I believe so much in. You may think it’s a controversial idea, but I assure you it isn't. Because even if we disagree on the need for access to abortion services, we can agree that no one should make this kind of decision just because of money. That’s what you’re really donating to- empowering women to do what’s right for them.

So please give what you can. Whether it’s $10 or $100, almost every dollar goes directly to helping those who need it. Thanks for your support!!!!
