WHY I'M BOWLING

Here’s the thing: people all around the world have abortions. All of my life (except for in 2008-2009 and again in 2011-2012) I have known that if I got pregnant, I’d have an abortion. I’ve also known that I had a clinic nearby (sometimes it’s been my place of work, even) where I could get services that I could pay for. This is not true for many many people. My day job is to try and help change that around the globe. But every April, I bowl so that I can raise money to help people right here in North Carolina.

I'm bowling because I believe that everyone should have access to the abortions they need, regardless of how much money they have. For many people who need abortions, social stigma means that they are shamed and isolated, making it even harder to get the money they need. I think people deserve to have safe and supported abortions, and that’s why I bowl to support the Caroline Abortion Fund. The all-volunteer hotline is staffed with supportive voices 24/7. But with the current small budget, it can only help around 12% of those callers with funding.
