WHY I'M BOWLING

"Give me a Tanqueray and Tab, and keep 'em comin'. I got a long [fundraising] drive ahead of me."

Last summer, we here in Texas found out that our state lege wanted to pass a series of TRAP laws, aimed at making it impossible to exercise our Constitutional right to say what we do with our own bodies. It was like I woke up one day and felt like the government was totally Munsoning women! 

But women don't like to be Munsoned. We don't need you to tell us how to handle our own bodies or make our reproductive choices for us. These men in the Texas lege have no idea what it's like to be a woman and they're not doctors, no matter how smart they think they are.

Despite our best efforts, the odds were stacked against us.

And those assholes in the Lege are all like

But we won't sit idly by and let them take away a woman's right to choose. We will support each other and support those who have to make a difficult-- or not so difficult-- choice. One that is EACH INDIVIDUAL WOMAN'S CHOICE TO MAKE.

So, I'm bowling because I believe that everyone should have access to the Constitutionally protected right to abortions they need. This access should be guaranteed, regardless of how much money they have. Poverty should not be a barrier to choice. In fact, the single greatest factor determining whether or not a woman will be able to get out of poverty and break the cycle is the age at which she first gives birth.

Because of unfair and unnecessary laws, safe and legal abortions can be out of reach of those who don't have the money to pay for them. I don't think that's right, so I'm doing something about it.
