WHY I'M BOWLING

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME REACH MY $500 GOAL! I'm now hoping to raise *~*$1,000*~* for abortion access in Texas before April 26!

I'm proud to be fundraising for The Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity, an organization that provides direct financial assistance and counseling to empower people seeking to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

Texas, in it's expansive 286,820 square feet, is my home. I'm proud to be a Texan.

But, our elected reprsentatives, (elected by a mere 28.5%  of voters in the 2014 midterm election), could use some work.

(There are a few exceptions, like these reproductive health queens.)

Sometimes, it can feel like a real peeing race to see who can pass the most onerous restrictions on access to safe, legal abortion in the name of "health and safety."

When in reality, abortion is one of the safest medical procedures a person can have.

It's hard to know where we are going without knowing where we've been.

In the 2011 session we saw:

1. Family planning funding cut by 2/3
2. The decimation of the Medicaid Women's Health Program
3. The mandatory sonogram law

In the 2013 session we saw:
1. No anti-women's health bills even made it to the floor!
2. Until the special session when an "omnibus abortion bill" was passed that:
-Bans abortion after 20-weeks
-Requires facilities where abortions are performed be ambulatory surgical centers
-Requires use of FDA guidelines instead of evidence-based guidelines for medication abortion
-Requires doctors who perform abortions to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of the health center

ALL OF THESE LAWS WERE PASSED AGAINST THE ADVICE OF MAJOR MEDICAL ASSOCIATIONS.

And these laws have forced health centers, that provide a wide-array of reproductive health services, to close.

(41 health centers that offered abortion were open in 2011, while 17 stand today. And if the ambulatory surgical center requirement is allowed, we will have fewer than 10 clinics (shown in black).)

Texas lawmakers be like:

Let's trust and support a person's choice to make the best decision for themselves. Please make a donation to support abortion access today, and help me exceed my $500  $1,000 fundraising goal.

All donors will receive a handwritten thank you card on the cutest stationary ever made.

Come on, WWTBD?
